Here are suggestions that are commonly sought by clients
for improving the look and feel of their portrait:
Clothing
~ White or pastel colors are perfect
for lighter backgrounds.
~ Casual outfits in earth tones
are great for outdoor portraits.
~ Middle tones and deeper solid
colors are ideal for formal portraits.
~ Bright colors look great with
color backgrounds.
~ Do not wear large prints or
patterns that distract from your face.
~ If possible, wear long-sleeved
shirts or sweaters rather than short-sleeved.
~ Family and group portraits look
best when everyone is dressed in the same color tones. Colors should
coordinate with each other so that no one person stands out.
Hair
Wear your hair in a style you are comfortable with. Avoid new cuts
or styles.
Glasses
If you wear glasses you should wear them for your portrait. Not
wearing them will make you look different than you normally do.
For Ladies
Keep your make-up natural and fresh. Women being photographed in
full length should wear long skirts, pants, or dark stockings in
order to keep the eye from being directed toward the legs and away
from the face.
For Guys
If you have a beard or mustache, consider a fresh shave to make
sure it's neatly trimmed. Hair should be cut about one week before
the photo session.
Props
No one knows you better than yourself. Props are a great way to
add character to your portrait. Feel free to bring any and all props
you feel help tell the story about who you are.
